Sonne, See und Scahmalspur depicts the far end of an Inselbahn, an island railway. These, most commonly exist(ed) on the islands of the North Sea coast of Germany. The line from Immer Regnet to Vereinzelte Schauer fulfills the functions of a typical modern day Inselbahn. It carries holiday makers and their luggage from the ferry to the main town on the island, Immer Regnet. It then runs across to Vereinzelte Schauer. This town was founded on fishing, but once this declined the line brought in holiday makers and day trippers to enjoy the beaches on this side of the island. The former fish processing plant now handles a light industry. Containers from the wagons carry good to and from the ferry port on the mainland.

The above is largely fiction, however there are two working Inselbahnen on the islands of Langeroog and Wangeroog. This one is less “ mainline” in it’s nature than either of those. It has stock based on that more normally found on Feldbahn or industrial narrow gauge lines. The rolling stock is mostly scratch built on Minitrains chassis for the stock and LifeLike US N gauge locomotives for the rail bus and freight diesels.

The model is constructed to HO scale or 1/87. The “e” in Hoe means that it is narrow gauge HO based on 9mm gauge or “N” gauge track.

Operation of the frieght trains employs a simple system involving a die to select the number of cars to be exchanged.

If you have any questions on the model or German railway modelling, do not hesitate to ask the operator.
